Sport and Enrichment News at Malcolm Arnold Preparatory School

Sport at MAPS
This term has been an exciting and varied one for sport and enrichment at MAPS, with pupils engaging in a wide range of clubs, competitions, and special events that support physical activity, creativity, and wellbeing.
Extra-Curricular Clubs
MAPS offers a diverse range of clubs, giving pupils opportunities to develop talents both in and beyond sport:
- Christmas Arts and Crafts Club
- KS2 Choir
- Athletics Prep Club
- TT Rockstars Club
- Orchestra
These clubs encourage participation, teamwork, confidence, and creativity, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Competitions and Sporting Events
Pupils represented MAPS in several competitive sporting events throughout the term. Our athletes attended the Northampton Sport Athletics event, showing great effort and commitment.
We also took part in the DRET Cross Country Qualifier, with pupils demonstrating resilience and determination and qualified to DRET Cross Country Finals at Nevill Holt in March 2026.
MAPS pupils were proud to take part in the DRET Horizon Netball Day, representing the school with enthusiasm and excellent sportsmanship, and achieving an impressive 2nd place overall!
Enrichment and Specialist Support
In addition to competitions, pupils benefited from specialist support from Mal from DRET Sport, who delivered a highly engaging Games Day for Year 5, providing opportunities for fun, inclusive participation in sport. Mal also led CPD sessions with Year 5 staff, supporting high-quality PE teaching, and delivered a Health and Wellbeing Confidence Workshop with Year 5 pupils, helping to boost self-esteem, resilience, and understanding of the importance of physical activity and positive mental health.
Pupils also enjoyed a festive House Christmas Art Competition, showcasing creativity and enthusiasm, and took part in the Countdown to Milan 2026 event at Malcolm Arnold Academy, delivered in partnership with the British Olympic Association (BOA). Pupils were inspired as they learned about the Winter Olympic Games and participated in engaging activities linked to Milan 2026.
Sport and enrichment continue to play a central role at MAPS, supporting pupils’ physical health, confidence, creativity, and enjoyment. We look forward to building on this success and offering even more opportunities in the coming terms.
